PITTSBURGH -- After two hours of those tortuous pregnant pauses - where the "American Idol" judges make the contestants prolong their angst for several long seconds before telling the singers whether they made it - Western Pennsylvanians need to wait another day before finding out if their guy, Adam Brock, made the Top 24.

The resident of Washington County ended Wednesday night's "Idol" episode with a cliffhanger. Judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson seemed to be preparing Brock, 27, for bad news. As Brock cried and talked about how badly he wants to be a singer, the judges complimented him on his overall talent, but said that Brock stumbled in his final solo performance.

"I have to sing," Brock, a new father to baby girl Whitney, said between tears. "It's where my joy comes from. It's how I know God has blessed me."

Then, the judges paused as if they were about to break his heart. Not that it mattered: Each singer picked for the Top 24 semifinalists, who now will sing on the FOX television show for audience votes, endured moments of sweaty uncertainty before hearing that they made it.

And before we learned the verdict, in the midst of an emotional climax, the show ended.

Tune in at 8 tonight to find out whether Brock and the remaining Idol contestants are graduating from the judges to American voters. The remaining contestants evidently include Latia Lee of the West End, who is listed on the "Idol" web site but has not been shown.
